Day 2 of the International Children's Theater Festival Subotica - report

On Monday, September 20, the second day of the International Children's Theater Festival Subotica, the Competition Program included performances Aero by the Odivo Theater from Slovakia and Oz by the Vaskakas Puppet Theater from Hungary.

The play Aero was performed at the Children's Theater in Subotica. It is a show about flying and moving in the air. The air current drives different materials and the vibrations of the air sound like music. Aero is an air laboratory for children from one and a half to 3 years old, their parents and "everyone who wants to fly".

The main actress in the play, Mária Danadová, pointed out the challenges in the performing of this play: “With my partner in the play, I direct the air and objects that fly above directed by the air. This is difficult because many things affect the air - temperature, stage height, number of people in the audience. We usually perform in front of children sitting in a circle around us, very close. It was not possible here because of the stairs, but I think we still managed to make contact. It is very important for us to see the children and establish eye contact, a connection over the eyes."

The audience could also watch the play Oz, based on the famous work "The Wizard of Oz", on the Jadran stage of the National Theater.

Director Róbert Markó said this on theater play: “Most of our audience is composed of young people - kindergarten children and pupils. This story is a very good choice for that audience. It is about ending their childhood and moving to a different social community, about children getting to know themselves. The characters from the play, such as the Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Lion, are very good for them, in order to understand that situation. Our play is focused on music, but it is not a reproduction of the famous musical. This is a new Hungarian version, with new music, cast, costumes and lights."

An exhibition of student posters was opened at the Danilo Kiš Foundation for Youth Culture and Creativity, while an exhibition in honor of the laureates of the Little Prince Award was opened at the Gallery of the Open University Subotica. The ballet performance The Snow Queen (out of competition) is scheduled for 4 pm at the Children's Theater in Subotica, while the film Stela directed by Stevan Vujičić is on the repertoire at 5 pm in the Eurocinem. A conversation with the winners of the Little Prince Award, Jovan Caran and Ludmila Konstantinova Hense, which will be moderated by Dr. Zoran Đerić, the Festival selector, is also scheduled for 5 pm at the Hotel Patria.

On the third day of the festival, on Tuesday, September 21, two plays will be performed in the competition program: Bambi by the Children's Theater Kragujevac (Jadran Stage of the National Theater, 10 am) and Guli by the Galilean Multicultural Theater from Israel (Children's Theater Subotica, 12 pm). An exhibition of puppets from the Kragujevac Children's Theater will be opened at the Children's Theater in Subotica at 9:30, while a promotion of the 14th issue of the NITI puppet art magazine (publisher: Theater Museum of Vojvodina) and the collection of the works The Theater for Children - an Artistic Phenomenon will be held at the Patria Hotel at 5 pm (book 11, publisher: Open University Subotica, International Children's Theater Festival Subotica, Theater Museum of Vojvodina). In the film program, at 5 pm, the repertoire of the Eurocinem includes My Family and the Wolf directed by Adria Garcia.
