A walnut wand entwined with hazelnuts soared upward and the melodies instantly disappeared. The dancers scattered the circle, the crowd of spectators accepted them and created a new one. In its center was a man with a staff. "Forgive me if I make a mistake, I am simply telling what I heard...", he began quietly, in a slightly singsong voice. "Fairytale!" The Old Tale is a depiction of an ancient Circassian legend. It is an example of primitive, naive, archaic theatre. The legend points to noble human values that have traditionally been passed down from generation to generation. The puppets were made according to replicas of exhibits preserved in the Ethnographic Museum in St. Petersburg.
